Green Meadows Alpacas
A family alpaca stud farm tucked beside the beautiful Catlins — home to over 65 alpacas in every colour, including our rare blue-black suris.
Our story
A stud farm raised with care in the Catlins
Green Meadows Alpacas is a working stud farm on Waimahaka–Fortification Road, just outside Wyndham and a stone's throw from the beautiful Catlins coast. We breed and raise alpacas across a full spread of natural colours — from soft whites and warm fawns to deep browns and the rare blue-black suri.
Every animal here is known by name and handled with care, from halter-training the crias to selecting the fleece we send off for washing, carding and spinning. It's a small, hands-on operation — and we love sharing it.
Our herd
Every colour of the paddock
Alpacas naturally come in more colours than any other fibre-producing animal. Our herd shows off the full range — including our prized, hard-to-find blue-black suris.
Whites & light fawns
Bright, soft fleece that takes dye beautifully — a favourite for hand-knitters.
Fawns & browns
Warm, earthy tones ranging from light caramel through to rich chocolate.
Blue-black suris
Rare and striking — our suris carry lustrous, silky locks in deep blue-black.
Fibre & products
From paddock to yarn
Alpaca fleece is soft, warm, hypoallergenic and lanolin-free. We sell it at every stage — raw and carded, hand-spun, or already knitted up.
Washed & carded fleece
Cleaned and carded, ready for spinning or felting, in a range of natural colours straight off the farm.
Hand-spun yarn
Soft-spun skeins in undyed natural shades, ready to knit or weave straight off the bobbin.
Knitted goods
Cosy, made-to-order pieces knitted up from our own fleece — ask us about availability.
